Galabovo is a municiapal centre in Stara Zagora. The town has a very crucial crossroad location because the most direct roads pass through its territory connecting Northern and Southern Bulgaria, respectively Romania with Turkey. Simeonovgrad (13 km), Banya (24 km), Harmanli (26 km), Nova Zagora and Topolovgrad (40 km), Stara Zagora (45 km) are nearby. The strategic location of Galabovo is the main reason for which its territory have been inhabited since Neolithic times. The Shkorpil brothers were the first to make studies in the region. Substantial traces from Thracian times were found in the mounds of Asara (Hisarya) further to Maritza Iztok 1, Lesova Chuka, Malova Chuka, Liska Mogila. There are remains of ancient Roman roads, too. The Galabovo region became a part of the First Bulgarian Kingdom even under Khan Tervel's rule. Galabovo emerged gradually through the unification of three nearby villages and the flourishing trade, transport, and consequently - the industry. The most rapid progress of Galabovo came with the establishment and development of Maritsa Iztok. Today, too, the name of the town is mainly related to mining, power generation, and transport services. So perhaps most of its visitors will be surprised that Galabovo is a good centre for tourism in the region. The Rozov Kladenets Dam, situated in the Eastern part of the town, is a dwelling place for many rare bird species and it is particularly attractive for ornithologists. It is even proposed for Natura 2000. The village of Glavan (25 km) is situated near Galabovo. The Roman Fortress of Balzena, which used to guard the crossroads of Via Diagonalis and Via Militaris, rises near it. The best known protective earth fortification south of the Danube river is located in the region, which is from the time of the First Bulgarian State - Erkesiata Bulwark. It stretches from Debelt village to Tenevo village. Galabovo hotels are few in number, but they offer excellent accommodation. They are suitable for both business and leisure.
