Dolni Maryan is a small village in the picturesque Elena Balkan, located 8 km east of the town of Elena and 10 minutes' drive away. It is surrounded by several rivers and gently sloping hills, which makes it extremely beautiful and easily accessible in every season. Dolni Maryan is a great place to relax in the mountains. Here there are very good conditions for fishing in the rivers of Kostelska, Zlatarishka and Miikovska, as well as in the micro dams of Ruhovtsi (1-2 km), Palitsi (5-6 km), Opitno pole (6-7 km), Bebrovo (7-8 km ) and in the big Yovkovtsi Reservoir, located 16 km west of Dolni Maryan. The area is nice for picnics in the mountains, as well as for walks or hikes to the local landmarks: the Hristovski Waterfall on the Miikovska River, Mount of Turlata, Golyama Tuzla Peak, Chukara Peak, Golyama Chuka Peak, Kamata Peak. Dolni Maryan is not only a great place for eco and rural tourism, but also for religious tourism and pilgrimage. In the area of the village within up to 8 kilometers there are many interesting churches and monasteries. Among them are the Maryanski Monastery of St Transfiguration of Jesus (village of Maryan, 1-2 km) and the Buinovski Monastery of St Elijah the Prophet (village of Buynovtsi, 6-7 km). Elena's proximity allows local visitors to organize day trips to this beautiful Renaissance town where there are many cultural and historical sites. About 17 km north of Dolni Maryan towards Zlataritsa one can find the Thracian and Late Ancient Fortress of Makaveya and the Medieval Fortress of Bratovanovgrad - against one another on both sides of the river. Their surrounding areas are also suitable for visits and walks. In general, visitors to the village will not be bored and they will certainly rest in the fresh air, the peace and quiet. Accommodation options in the village are limited. There are few guest houses in Dolni Maryan, as well as bungalows. However, all of them offer accommodation at affordable rates and a good quality service.
