The village of Batoshevo is situated on the northeastern slopes of the Razlatitsa Massif from the Middle Fore-Balkans. It is located 15 km from Sevlievo, 25 km from Gabrovo and about 170 km from Sofia. There are about 700 people in it. Even in the centre of the village the tourist eyes are surprised by a rope bridge crossing over the Rositsa River. The river itself is extremely interesting. It looks like the water has cut the rocks and has settled there forever. There is not even one small stone. So locals and visitors, too, often go sunbathing in its bed. There are many bridges and walkways of every type and kind along its valley. The village has its architectural landmark, too - a church with a clock tower. The most aesthetic thing, however, are the houses - built with thick stone foundation in a typical Revival style and covered with stone slabs. In addition - cozy balconies and lavish windows where caring hostesses put colourful rugs in the spring and autumn - to air them, as well as to boast with their beauty. Even if the tourists do not get there on St. Peter's Day when there is a traditionally made unique local dish with the strange name "white man", the kind hosts who remember it from their mothers and grandmothers may prepare it especially for their guests. It is prepared from milk, cheese, flour and sugar. Some local people have rebuilt their homes and offer accommodation in guest houses and family hotels in Batoshevo. They combine in a pleasant way the home comfort and colourfulness of the Balkan house with all modern conveniences. Batoshevo has its industrial pride - one of the first hydroelectric power plants, built in 1929-1930, and working to this day. The village is popular for its two monasteries - the convent of the Entrance of the Theotokos, which is within the settlement and the male monastery of the Assumption which is within a walking distance of 4-5 km southwest high in the Sevlievo Balkans. It was founded in the 18th century and was a cultural and educational centre in the Revival Period. Especially valuable are its preserved iconostasis and icons by Tsanyu Zahariev, a representative of the Tryavna art school. There are original artistic frescos in the western part of the outer narthex, the central dome and arches. The monastery is operational and it is a monument of culture. The time of the foundation of the convent of the Entrance of the Theotokos cannot be said for sure. It was burnt and rebuilt many times over the centuries; today it is an oasis for both faith and the religious, cultural and historical tourism. For those visitors of Batoshevo who prefer other, freer sensations, the proposal could be the nearby Castel Dam which was built on the left tributary of the river of Rositsa. The water of 7 high wells flows into it. Its rocky bottom maintains cool water temperatures and thus makes it an excellent place for fishing in the summer days, picking flowers and herbs or just contemplating nature. At dusk one can prepare meals of fish there using unique local recipes that anglers share either in the ear, or on a drink.
