Bachevo is a village situated 6 km from Razlog, in a mountain area on the southern slopes of the Rila Mountain. The population is 1767 people. Nearby there are mineral springs. That is why the village was declared a spa treatment and climatic resort of local importance. The oldest evidence of life on these lands is from 6-5 century BC. The Perivol Area is 6 km north of Bachevo. It is also emblematic. Its name comes from Persian and means "a beautiful view". There are remains of an old Roman settlement there, and the excavations have shown that it is from the first century. The settlement has preserved ancient traditions even today, as well as unique Bulgarian culture and it constantly confirms the name of the area. Its good chance is its proximity to one of the most famous Bulgarian resorts - Bansko as the distance is only 6 km. The natural phenomenon of Gergyova Skala is even closer - a 20-minute walk. This is where one may see the whole panorama of the magnificent Razlog Valley. Perhaps because of this breadth and charm, the locals believe that St. George himself lived here. According to local tradition, he protected the Christians but he was chased for his believes and he ran away with his horse until they reached a rock and the hooves of this horse were about to drop in the abyss beneath. Then God gave wings to the animal and it jumped from the edge of the rocks to save his rider. It may be just a story, but it can be true because even today prints of hoofs can be seen on the rock, and the rock is called Gergyova Skala (George's Rock). Therefore, each year there is an offering made in the area of Presveta close to the rock on St. George's Day, as well as a custom of melting nosegays done the night before. Girls sing and put the nosegays in a pot of water while thinking of wishes. In order to come true, the nosegays have to stay in the water, and the next day they are spread among the girls. It is not only St. George's horse, however, that is revered in Bachevo. One of the most celebrated holidays is Todorov Day. For centuries the tradition is the same - riders and animals come to the square, where they do a ceremony with ritual feeding of horses with sugar and salt for health and strength with corn, wheat and nuts to have a rich harvest. The ritual bread itself that is given to people has the shape of a horseshoe and everyone should eat for happiness and good luck. Respect for horses is supplemented by the new trends - the village develops rural and eco-tourism mainly in this direction. Undertaking locals have built equestrian centres and offer riding lessons for young and adults, horse trekking and individual trips on horseback in beautiful surroundings. The village has a spa treatment resort built at the mineral spring with healing water in the area of Razhdavets, just off the St. George Chapel. There are several special routes in Rila and Pirin for mountain cycling enthusiasts. Bachevo is a great place for mountain tourism in all its forms and in all seasons. Therefore, there are several accommodation options - mainly guest houses and family hotels in Bachevo, which are a great alternative to the hotels in Bansko and Razlog.
